"Hello - is this thing on?"
I don't know why I still monitor the OpenLDAP users list, there's so much negativity directed towards Fedora and Red Hat in general, and our directory server family (Netscape and its derivatives) in particular. Perhaps it's because two of the key OpenLDAP developers are on the fedora-directory-devel list and don't hesitate to speak their minds . . . I almost never respond to posts there, but this one in particular just reiterated the same tired myths about Red Hat. So I took the bait (/me puts finger in mouth like a fishook) and replied, thinking that I was getting myself in for a flame war. But then . . . nothing (sound of crickets chirping). I'm a little bit disappointed (although I probably should be relieved) because I do want to know what the poster and those like him think about the situation in light of this information. I don't have any hopes that I will actually change anyone's mind - at least it offered me a chance to raise the level of discourse above the usual mud slinging . . .
